Creativamente Roero

Creativamente Roero
Creativamente Roero is a project that brings contemporary art, communities and the local area into dialogue through a network of artist residencies spread across the villages and castles of Roero and Monferrato. Created to enhance local heritage through contemporary artistic practices, the project involves Italian and international artists in research and creative processes developed in close contact with the places and the people who inhabit them.

Promoted by Associazione Creativamente Roero and curated by Patrizia Rossello, the initiative is based on participatory practices that transform the artistic process into an opportunity for encounter, listening and mutual discovery. The residencies include site visits, discussions with local communities, workshops and public presentations, leading to the creation of site-specific artworks and installations deeply rooted in their host environments.

Now in its eighth edition, Creativamente Roero has gradually created a genuine open-air museum spread across the region. Today, the project involves 25 municipalities and features more than 30 permanent installations by 28 artists, which have formally been donated to and become part of the heritage of their local communities. This artistic route extends across the area, celebrating its identity, history and landscape while creating new opportunities for cultural engagement.

The 2026 edition, entitled Tema libero (Open Theme), involved artists Carlo Gloria, Francesco Meloni, Giuseppe Gavazza and Saverio Todaro in a process of research, analysis and creation developed in the municipalities of Antignano, Castellinaldo d’Alba, Govone and San Martino Alfieri. The new works, unveiled on 24 May during a well-attended travelling celebration involving more than 600 people, have been added to the permanent public itinerary, further enriching the dialogue between contemporary art and the local area.

Among the works created in 2026, Carlo Gloria’s Agriparco in San Martino Alfieri expands upon the project launched the previous year, transforming the site of a former bowls club into a green space dedicated to community gathering and participation. In Antignano, Francesco Meloni created ROOF#A, a sculptural canopy overlooking the hills that invites visitors to pause, reflect and spend time together. In Govone, within the Rose Garden of King Charles Felix and Maria Christina, Giuseppe Gavazza presents ...e la presente è viva e il suon di lei. Giardino d’ascolto, a work that uses QR codes and sound recordings to guide visitors through an immersive experience centred on listening to the place. Finally, in Castellinaldo d’Alba, Saverio Todaro expands Share, a project launched in 2018, with a new installation exploring the themes of sharing and the promotion of local wine production.

Alongside the artworks, the 2026 programme included opportunities for in-depth discussion and public exchange, including the conference Arte, Cultura, Impresa, held on 16 May at the Royal Castle of Govone, and the presentation of the Royal Castle of Govone Award..

Through the direct involvement of local communities and the creation of permanent artworks, Creativamente Roero continues to develop a model of territorial enhancement in which contemporary art, landscape and local identity become tools for cultural growth and sustainable development.

The Network

Today, Creativamente Roero brings together a network of 25 municipalities and numerous institutional, cultural and community partners. The project is part of ORMA. Artists’ Trails in Langhe Monferrato Roero and contributes to the cultural enhancement of the region in the lead-up to Alba’s designation as Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2027. It forms part of a wider programme of initiatives promoting a widespread and participatory vision of contemporary art.
