From June 2 to 28, the Chamber Music Festival returns to the Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero regions.
The sixth edition of the Colline in Musica Festival revolves around a fundamental and deeply evocative theme: Roots. Roots as cultural memory, as a sense of belonging to a territory, and as the continuity of musical tradition across the centuries. But also roots as a creative origin, a generative force that nourishes the present and opens the door to the future.
The opening concert, on June 2 at Guarene Castle (on Republic Day), will feature the “Michelangelo Abbado” Chamber Orchestra and cellist Francesco Dillon. The program for the opening concert fully reflects the theme: the roots of 20th-century Italy with Giorgio Federico Ghedini’s Invenzioni, the European Baroque tradition with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Third Brandenburg Concerto, a new commission for the young Turin-based composer and violinist Gioele Pierro, and Béla Bartók’s Divertimento for Strings, where folk tradition becomes modern language.
Among the main new features of the 2026 edition—alongside established venues such as the Castles of Guarene and Grinzane Cavour, the Convent of San Francesco in Cortemilia, and the Church of Santa Chiara in Bra, Castagnito, Neviglie, and Piobesi d’Alba, the Reggia di Venaria, with the festival concluding as always at Palazzo Re Rebaudengo in Guarene—is the inclusion of new venues in the festival itinerary, featuring events hosted at the Falletti Municipal Castle in Barolo, the State Archives of Turin, the Castle of the Marquises of Busca in Mango, the Sala Fenoglio in Alba, and the small Romanesque church of San Secondo in Cortazzone. These venues are distinct from one another but united by a shared commitment to fostering a dialogue between music, architecture, and historical memory. At the State Archives of Turin, a new partner of the Festival, a project will also be presented that combines contemporary music with ancient inspiration, further strengthening the connection to this year’s theme.
