Prospettive / Perspectives
Amid the UNESCO-listed hills of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, the villages of Roddino and Neviglie host Prospettive / Perspectives, a project that uses contemporary art as a means of interpreting the region and the challenges of the present.

Launched in 2023 as part of the Italy–France Interreg ALCOTRA Programme, the project is promoted by the Langhe Monferrato Roero Tourist Board, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and Villa Arson.

Curated by Tom Eccles, Prospettive / Perspectives invites visitors to see the landscape from a new perspective, connecting the local context with global issues such as climate change, sustainability and environmental protection. Through permanent artworks, participatory activities and opportunities for dialogue with local communities, the project turns art into a means of understanding the region and imagining its future.

At the heart of the initiative are artistic interventions developed in close connection with the places in which they are located and the people who inhabit them. The works emerge from a collaborative process involving residents, schools and local organisations, encouraging active participation and collective reflection on the themes explored by the artists.

Since 22 April 2023, the mural However many times we ran the model the results were pretty much the same, created by Liam Gillick and Hito Steyerl in Roddino, has transformed the façade of the former village school—now a multipurpose community shop—into a large-scale visual device based on data processing and a critical reading of contemporary society. In Neviglie, Jean-Marie Appriou’s sculpture The Traveler, installed at the public viewpoint, interprets the landscape as a symbolic meeting place between memory, transformation and visions of the future.

In 2026, the project continues the journey begun in previous years, further strengthening the relationship between artists and local communities. Liam Gillick will return to Roddino to create an artist-designed poster for the historic cultural event Mataria d’Langa, which will celebrate its thirty-fifth edition. During the event, on 26 July, the renowned “colourful house” will host a public literary gathering. In Neviglie, Jean-Marie Appriou will design the label for the first disgorgement of the municipality’s official traditional-method sparkling wine, creating a further dialogue between contemporary art, local identity and wine culture.

Through artworks, encounters and collaborations, Prospettive / Perspectives reaffirms its mission: to encourage a more thoughtful experience of the region, stimulate dialogue around the major issues of our time and forge new connections between art, communities and landscape.
