Extra event for the Astese Medieval Festival: on Friday 7 November at 5.30 pm at the Complesso di San Pietro, there will be a conference entitled “The civic, allegorical and political iconography of the city and its patron saint. Asti in the tomb of Azzone Visconti in San Gottardo in Milan” by Maresa Barolo (Academy of Fine Arts of Cuneo).
The meeting, with free admission, completes a journey that has focused on both the Middle Ages and medievalism, intertwining political and social history, heraldry, chivalry and a reinterpretation of traditions, with particular attention to San Secondo, the city's patron saint in whose honour the Palio was and is still run.
The second edition of the Astese Medieval Festival saw a series of well-attended meetings and conferences with historians and experts who analysed different aspects of the Middle Ages, from chivalry to its influence on music and cinema, including the Iubilate Deo concert. 1300 by the group La Ghironda and the choir Laeti Cantores and for our Palio, which celebrated its 750th anniversary.
