The third edition of the Asti Medieval Festival will take place from 23 to 27 September and this year will focus on the figure of St Francis and on the religious and Franciscan life of the city of Asti.
Numerous events will take place at various venues; here is a summary of the programme:
Wednesday 23 September at 6.00 pm – San Pietro Monumental Complex – Valperga Chapel: Keynote lecture by Professor Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli entitled ‘Starting with Francis. Credit for brothers in need: from the pauperes pinguiores to the working poor’
Thursday 24 September at 3.30 pm – San Pietro Monumental Complex – Valperga Chapel Conference entitled “Franciscanism, credit and citizenship”
Followed at 6.00 pm by the opening of the photographic exhibition dedicated to the Middle Ages in Asti, curated by Gabriele Picello – San Pietro Monumental Complex – Baptistery
Friday 25 September at 6.00 pm – Bishop’s Seminary – Refectory Opening of the exhibition on the history of education, drawing on medieval sources, entitled “At school with the ancients. The construction of knowledge between the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period”,
9.00 pm – Church of San Secondo Organ concert by Maestro Emanuele Colosetti, O
Saturday 26 September at 11.00 am – “G. Faletti” Astense Library: Presentation of the book “Wines, spices, flying pastels and sugar confetti. A brief history of cuisine and diet in the Middle Ages” by Davide Chiolero
Sunday 27 September, 5.00 pm – Diocesan Museum of San Giovanni
Lecture entitled “Materniganus de Filipis: a Milanese goldsmith and his works”, dedicated to the monstrance crafted by Materniganus himself in 1447 and housed at the Museum
