Chiesa di San Domenico

Chiesa di San Domenico

Consecrated church, Occasionally used church

The Church of San Domenico is a consecrated church. Historical studies and more recent geological investigations trace the founding of the church back to the second half of the 13th century. The church is owned by the Chapter of the nearby Cathedral of San Lorenzo. The church features a basilica-style floor plan with three large naves approximately 17 meters high. The central nave is 8.70 meters wide, while the two side naves are 4.40 meters wide. It consists of 6 bays, each about 5.80 meters long; the central apse is approximately 15 meters long, bringing the total length of the church to 50 meters, with the two side apses being slightly shorter. Since the early 1970s, the *Famija Albèisa*—a non-profit association established in Alba in 1955, recognized as a Moral Entity in 1972, and now operating as a Social Promotion Association (APS)—has managed the monument under a specific agreement with the owners. Over the years, using its own funds, private donations, and support from banking foundations, the Municipality of Alba, and various institutions and associations, the organization has restored the monument, returning it to its former glory in the early 1990s and making it accessible to the entire community.
