The path begins in Piazza San Martino in Vezza d’Alba, where you can also visit the Roero Natural History Museum. Following the directions on the signposts, head downhill along Via IV Novembre until you reach the small Church of Madonna degli Ayrali. At this crossroads, take the road to the right to reach the Fontana (The Fountain), an artistically decorated structure where you can refill your water or take a break on the benches. The paved road continues past several houses. Follow the signs to the left to reach Bricco di Val Tirolo. Here, the path descends into a wooded area—the ideal habitat for truffle-producing trees—and reaches the valley floor in the Varamone area.
Leave the dirt track and turn right onto the provincial road leading back toward Vezza d'Alba. Follow it for about 250 meters, then turn left onto a gentle uphill slope toward a vineyard-covered ridge. This area, known as Valvecchia, features several abandoned farmhouses and is a landmark in the history of Roero winemaking; it was here that many grape varieties were first cultivated. For example, the Favorita grape name originated in Vezza, first documented by the Roero family in 1676.
The path turns right through vineyards and hazelnut groves, returning to the flat valley floor. Here, you will walk alongside a fenced pond which, in summer, is covered in lotus flowers and water lilies, creating a truly unique sight. The return to the village of Vezza d'Alba follows a long but scenic climb through vineyards dotted with many small ciabòt (traditional vineyard sheds). You will reach the historic center at the Chapel of San Sebastiano, continue right to Piazza di San Bernardino, and complete the loop in the upper village.
