In the Ligurian section, the Schweiz–Meer Radweg – Swiss-to-Sea Cycle Route reaches the Ligurian Sea and follows one of the most scenic coastal routes in the Mediterranean, also known as the Sea Cycle Route. Here the landscape changes dramatically: alpine valleys and rolling hills give way to seascapes of beaches, cliffs, fishing villages, and terraced olive groves.
Cycling routes include:
- a wide range of coastal routes and itineraries;
- a wide range of inland routes and itineraries;
- quiet cycle paths suitable for cyclists of all levels;
- more challenging routes for those looking for a demanding ride.
One of the defining features of this section is the Ligurian western Riviera cycle path, built on the former coastal railway line. This flat and scenic route allows cyclists to ride just a few metres from the sea, passing through seaside towns and historic villages in a setting that is also accessible to families and less experienced cyclists.
Alongside the coastal routes, the Ligurian hinterland offers more challenging itineraries through hills, ridges, and valleys, ideal for those seeking a more athletic experience immersed in nature. The scents of Mediterranean vegetation — among olive trees, maritime pines, and wild scrubland — accompany the journey all the way to the French border.
The Schweiz–Meer Radweg – Swiss-to-Sea Cycle Route therefore crosses a region that combines the sea, a mild climate, and iconic landscapes, representing one of the most spectacular sections of the entire itinerary before continuing towards the French Riviera.
