Nascetta is an indigenous variety of Alba, in the past reported to be grown in a geographical area between Alba and Mondovi and now grown in limited quantities almost exclusively in the town of Novello. Locally also called Anascetta or Nas-Cetta (curiously pronounced by detaching the "s" from the "c" and with a semi-silent "e"), this vine is mentioned under the name of "Anascetta" by Rovasenda in his Saggio di un’ampelografia universale (1877), where it is described as a "delicate and exquisite grape wine", reflecting the fact that it was used for making wine, but also appreciated as a table grape. Semi-aromatic white grape variety, in recent times it has slightly lost its popularity, but has begun to attract the interest of some pioneering winemakers, who have been able to recognise its potential. From its grapes, we obtain a white wine with good structure and moderate acidity, which is well-suited to bridge the lack of great white wines in the Langhe.
