Most probably the apple that Eve offered to Adam was not a ""marcon"", she would have eaten it and everything might have taken a different turn. And neither was the apple that William Tell had to hit with his infallible arrows. It was too good to be destined for anything other than the palate. The ""marcun"" or ""pom marcon"" is an ancient variety of apple typical of the Asti area and, forgotten for years, as often happens, it was then revalued and protected with a De.Co. trademark. It is a very sweet and crunchy pulp enclosed in a medium-small fruit with a skin whose hues range from red to antique pink and green: an ancient apple that prefers sandy soil and altitudes above 200 metres. Its aromas recall bygone eras and, as well as being suitable for daily consumption, there are many Piedmontese recipes that recommend its use. Flowering takes place at the end of April and the fruit will be ready for harvesting in October. If kept in a cool and suitable environment, it will last until late spring.
