GRAPPA

A well-known ditty says that it takes a flower to make a table and much more. The author knew it well and even if this tune is hummed by unwitting children, it could be elected as the anthem of sustainability. It takes a flower to make many things, including grappa, or rather it takes an inflorescence to produce those berries that we all call grapes. The residue resulting from the grape crushing process, to obtain the great wines of Langhe Monferrato Roero, is certainly not wasted: here the ancient local distillation tradition comes into play, strong in its heritage of vineyards that provide highly prized pomace. The high quality of the raw material that reaches the stills ensures that excellent grappas are produced in the distilleries, appreciated by connoisseurs and known to the general public also thanks to advertising campaigns that have made communication history. To visit a distillery is a multi-sensory experience: apart from describing the production cycle of the spirit, be it young, aged or aromatised, the great distillers will take you through stills and vapours and guide you to the discovery of a world closely tied to the ability to tell its story. Flavours and aromas will be the great protagonists, but don't forget to look at the labels, the packaging, the originality of the bottles, as well as the advertising posters created by great artists of the last century, some claims will come back to you and, as the ad used to say, you too will go... ""higher and higher""! Do you remember?
