AUDIO GUIDE The Castagna Granda Path
The Castagna Granda Trail begins in Piazza Roma in Monteu Roero, a natural terrace offering stunning views of the Rocche of Roero cliffs.
Follow Via Umberto I toward Turin. Just outside the village, turn right following the signs for Località San Grato.
Upon reaching Cascina Avaj, the road becomes a dirt path. A pleasant, winding descent leads to a clearing of ancient chestnut trees, dominated by the "Castagna Granda." Listed by the Piedmont Region in the "Monumental Trees of Piedmont" registry, this awe-inspiring tree is estimated to be around 400 years old.
The final section of the loop winds through classic Roero woodlands, featuring oaks, chestnuts, and Scots pines. As the medieval castle of Monteu Roero comes into view, you will reach the Località Lambi and return to the village following the initial path.
