Cantina Sociale Barbera dei sei Castelli

La Cantina Sociale Barbera dei Sei Castelli is one of the leading cooperatives in Piedmont's wine sector. The company brings together vineyards and small-scale producers in the heart of the classic Barbera d’Asti DOCG area, spanning across the villages of Agliano Terme, Castelnuovo Calcea, Moasca, Calosso, San Marzano Oliveto, and Costigliole d’Asti: a land renowned and recognized as the cradle of excellence for Barbera production, of which the winery is the absolute largest producer.

The numbers confirm the leadership of Cantina Sociale Barbera dei Sei Castelli: over 60 years of activity, 250 members cultivating 800 hectares of vineyards with an average annual yield of 65,000 quintals of grapes, fully guaranteeing the origin and quality of the wines produced. In addition to Barbera d’Asti DOCG, the winery produces Nizza DOCG, Moscato d’Asti DOCG, Grignolino d’Asti DOC, Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG, and other signature wines of the region.

In 2024, at the Castelnuovo Calcea headquarters in Regione Opessina 41, the winery opened the Wine Tourism Center named "Il Risveglio del Ceppo" (The Awakening of the Vine Stock). This project stems from an innovative viticultural selection and research program developed by the winery in collaboration with the University of Turin.

The Barbera d’Asti “Il Risveglio del Ceppo” was born from this project. This label was later joined by the premium line “I Firmati”, a selection of wines crafted to evolve over time, which includes the Nizza DOCG Riserva and the Piemonte DOC Chardonnay “Terre dei Galleani”, further enriching the offer of this prestigious research project.

At the Wine Tourism Center, guests can taste local wines and regional gastronomic delicacies in a unique setting that is open to cultural and tourist initiatives. Visitors can also admire an evocative exhibition of sculptures by the local artist Ezio Ferraris, crafted from centenarian Barbera vine stocks that have been uprooted and are now displayed in the museum “L’Anima del Vino” (The Soul of Wine).
