Cooperativa Agricola La Masca was set up in 2001 as a collective project of four people who wanted to create a company that would produce good food while respecting the environment. Its production focus is mainly zootechnical, goat and dairy, complemented by fruit production from traditional varieties of trees, and horse breeding. The company is located in Roccaverano, up on the hills of Langa Astigiana, at an altitude of 550 m. The area features the highest points in the province of Asti. From a farming point of view, this is the most biodiverse Langa, characterised by few vines, hazelnut groves, pastures, woods and meadows; it is obviously an area highly suited to sheep farming and is renowned for the production of Italy's oldest PDO goat cheese: Robiola di Roccaverano. The farm breeds the Roccaverano goat and the Camosciata Alpina. These are breeds that can best benefit from the peculiarities of the local pasture, which is rich in officinal herbs, juniper, resinous trees and shrubs. The milk obtained from these pastures has exceptional organoleptic characteristics. All the milk produced is turned into cheese. Robiola di Roccaverano PDO is mainly produced with pure raw goat's milk in accordance with the specifications.
