Truffle Trail
The Truffle Trail twists along trifolao’s shadowy paths – the Rocche precious white truffle hunters, ascending along the vineyards clinging on sandy soils and rich in differently shaped ciabòt (typical local tiny rural buildings) scattered along a ring naturalistic path. The Rocche truffle is considered one of the best truffle species: more scented if compared with the one hunted in fields, this truffle is evenly round shaped thanks to the local marl soil (a characteristic much appreciated by chefs because it makes truffles easier to clean).
The trail starts nearby the 16th-century Morra Lavriano castle. From the top of the village, it progressively descends towards the shadowy Rocche bottom, where sandy walls and marl soils create the precious Alba white truffle perfect habitat.
The valley floor is the top truffle hosting environment, nevertheless the local high bamboo reeds witness that chestnut has always been important for these lands: bamboo reeds were used as rods to gather chestnuts. The trail ascends along the opposite hill side, from the thick wood toward sunny vineyards and ciabòt, i.e., typical local tiny rural buildings. The ring naturalistic trail stretches as far as Montà ancient village, running along alternating different cultivations.
