Religious Route
The Religious Route traces the ancient pilgrimage way, from Montà centre to Sacro Monte dei Piloni (the holy pillar mount), and back to the village across Diana valley and Rio Canneto unique naturalistic landscape. The 18th-century Santuario dei Piloni (pillar sanctuary) is the tiniest sacred mountain in Piedmont and offers its visitors a 360° view over Roero hills, immersed in vineyards and scots pines.
The trail starts from Piazza Vittorio Veneto and stretches to Laione hamlet – it ascends to vineyard-cultivated hill ridges, as far as Santuario dei Piloni (pillar sanctuary). Nearby the sanctuary, Ancient Roman and Middle Ages remains twist the Via Crucis pathway and its sacred constructions: the Romanic Chiesa dei SS. Giacomo e Filippo minore, which has been modified many times along centuries; thirteen hexagon-shaped chapels with statue assemblies and the Santo Sepolcro (Holy Sepulchre) built according to Lombardy Piedmont tradition.
Running across scots pine woods, centuries-aged chestnut woods, along the Rocche terraces and across a wild valley, the trail goes back toward Montà.
