Path 4 - Barolo
Ring Barolo - Novello - Monchiero – Monforte d’Alba – Barolo
Barolo - Novello
From piazzetta Cabutto go up the asphalt road and follow it for around 200 metres, then continue along a dirt track halfway up the hill through the vineyards. Head towards Monforte enjoying beautiful views over the valley below until you meet the asphalt road where you turn right up towards Novello. Go down from the historic village centre and take the dirt track on the left that descends first through vineyards and then woods. Go past the romantic ruins of the little church di San Nicola, perched on the cliff top and continue on until you reach the valley floor near a disused railway.
Monchiero – Monforte d’Alba
Turn left here and walk along the old railway track for around 200 metres, then turn left (if you go straight you will come to the village centre of Monchiero), and continue along the country road until you come to the main road. Turn left and then after 80 metres turn right towards the hamlet of Bagnaschi. Go through the hamlet and continue along the dirt track through a charming wood on the valley floor. Then go up the country road, which takes you to Cascina Benevella (on the left you will find path n. 4, which leads to Monforte d’Alba). Take a left onto the asphalt road that runs along the top of the hill and follow it for around 1.3 km, passing in front of the country chapel of San Sebastiano. Turn left onto a dirt track that takes you through chestnut and oak tree woods and then come back along the asphalt road to Cascina Botte. After about 500 metres you will come to a crossroads:
a) turn right to go down to Dogliani;
b) or continue straight on through the hamlet of Benenti, and then up towards Monforte d’Alba along the main road.
Monforte d’Alba - Barolo
Go downhill from the historic village centre until you reach the little Church delle Settevie and then turn right and continue up an asphalt road with panoramic views. Once you reach the top of the hill, turn right and continue down a path that takes you through oak and chestnut woods in the midst of one of the most beautiful forests of the Barolo area. When you reach the hamlet of San Giovanni, continue along the dirt track towards il Bricco from where you can enjoy a magnificent view. From here you descend through the vineyards until you reach Bosco della Fava where there is a brief but steep final stretch that brings you to piazza del Municipio in Barolo.
