Game Trail
The Game Trail starts from the untouched S. Stefano Roero town centre – a pedestrian oasis that proves to be the perfect location for traditional kid games and sports to be played in the village piazza. The path is highly panoramic and takes hikers to the Sacro Monte dei Piloni (the holy pillar mount), an ancient cultural site. The information panels along the trail offer visitors info about ancient games to be played with natural materials available in the environment and still remembered by elderly people.
The trail starts from Piazza di S. Maria del Podio, where it steeply ascends, bordered by a scenographic gorge over Rocche steep crags. The path takes hikers to cultivated lands with strawberry greenhouses and vineyards cultivated in sandy soils from which plenty of fossil shells emerge. Further ahead the trail is bordered by hazelnut tree groves and vineyards on the left, and gorges and panoramic amphitheatres on the right. An important descending section leads hikers toward more humid and wooded areas, characterized by a thicker flora.
Then the trail reaches a vineyard cultivated slope preceded by some beehives leaning over the Rocche, where soils are typically clayish. The trail final section comes to Santo Stefano Roero pedestrian historical centre, making visitors enjoy the best glimpses over Roero Rocche.
