On the Peaks of the Alta Langa Astigiana
A highly charming trail on the hills of the Langa Astigiana, through unspoilt nature and villages steeped in history.
The track runs along low-traffic roads and offers breathtaking views over the valley. It starts from the small medieval gem of Mombaldone, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. We climb up through evocative sandy gullies covered in heather and broom to the 13th-century Vengore tower (which is accessible), one of the many watchtowers on these high hills, specifically built to defend the area.
Further on, we reach Roccaverano, the highest municipality in the Asti region, with its splendid square overlooked by Bramante's Renaissance parish church and the remains of the castle. The loop trail continues towards San Giorgio Scarampi, another pretty hilltop village overlooking the valley. From here we continue to Olmo Gentile, a small restored turreted village much loved by photographers because of its skyline.
Next, we get to Bric Puschera, the Langa's highest peak at 851 metres, and Serole, a small town where the provinces of Asti, Cuneo, Alessandria and Savona meet. The route continues along the ridge through woods and breathtaking views before it descends to Mombaldone.
