Three months of exhibitions, contemporary art, photography and historical documents to showcase Montechiaro d’Asti and its traditions.
From Sunday 2 August until 8 November, ‘Arte e cultura non stop’ gets underway – a programme of events that will run throughout the town’s summer and autumn, combining the fiftieth anniversary of Montechiaro’s return to the Palio di Asti with the events of the Monferrato National White Truffle Fair and TartufArte.
The opening is scheduled for Sunday 2 August. At 10.00 am, in the churchyard of the Church of San Nazario – part of the ‘Rete Romanica in Collina’ network – a solo exhibition by the Asti-based painter Carla Novello will open.
In the afternoon, at 6.00 pm, the former historic venue of the Palio, at 8 Via Vittorio Emanuele, will host the opening of ‘Aspettando il Palio’ (Waiting for the Palio), an exhibition bringing together works by numerous contemporary artists and a solo exhibition dedicated to Pietro Macchiolo.
The heart of the exhibition will be dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of Montechiaro’s participation in the Palio di Asti. Visitors will be able to retrace this history through the photographic exhibition “People from my village at the 1976 Palio”, featuring photographs by Domenico Binello, alongside documents from the Codex Montechiarensis, a collection of articles and press cuttings entitled “Cuttings, clippings and the trials of Palio enthusiasts”, historical costumes from the 1930s and materials recounting the revival of the event.
