An oasis of peace where you can lose yourself in a countryside that regenerates and delivers emotions.
There is a different way to experience the Monferrato landscape and that is to plunge into the Nature Reserves. Among the three areas recognized by the Piedmont Region and run by the Ente Parchi Astigiani (Asti Parks Authority), the Rocchetta Tanaro Protected Area is not to be missed. It was first established in 1980 by a regional law on the land that largely belongs to the descendants of Marquis Mario Incisa. It is a genuine realm of biodiversity and is much appreciated by those who love walking in the countryside. The trails run through a rich woodland heritage of great naturalistic value, marked by the presence of a multitude of tall trees, such as chestnut trees, locust trees, oaks, beech trees and other plants; while the undergrowth is home to over 100 varieties of grasses and flowers that provide a colourful backdrop in springtime: wild orchids, lilies, lilies of the valley, anemones, little bells, primroses, violets and many others.

120 hectares of pristine nature, from the Sant'Emiliano hill down to the Tanaro valley.
There are also many wildlife species that find refuge in this protected habitat, and among the most common mammals you can perceive the presence of foxes, badgers (symbol of the park), squirrels, hedgehogs, weasels and dormice. An impressive variety of birds nest in the silence of this reserve (about 40 have been recorded.) These include the rare red woodpecker and nocturnal birds of prey, while in the valley, where the two state-owned rivers flow, Rio Rabengo and Rio Ronsinaggio, there is a significant number of amphibians and rare insects.
