StraMoncalvo Trail
Moncalvo lies on a hill and is totally immersed in the magnificent landscapes of the Monferrato: a harmonious land that you can discover by choosing to follow one of the several trails that have been designed to allow you to experience the emotions provided by these gentle slopes.
If you would like to spend half a day in the open air, without working too hard, we suggest the trail known as StraMoncalvo: a charming panoramic loop of about 8.5 km that runs south-west of the town centre, rewarding you with sweeping views and a relaxing full immersion in the quietness of these lands. The low altitude difference and the varied nature of the trail make it an excellent walk even for less trained people.
The departure is from Piazza Carlo Alberto, the heart of the town. Continue anti-clockwise and descend along Strada Regina Elena; then continue for a short distance along Provincial Road SP 57, which you will leave by turning left onto Via Gavello and then onto Strada Valletta Borganino, at the end of which you will find yourself in front of a tree-lined private avenue: here turn right to follow the dirt track that leads you onto Strada Gessi and then onto Strada Saliceto. Continue until you cross Via Don Bosco on the right and, once you reach the Military Column of Penango, beyond the cemetery, turn onto Strada Praie: There is some asphalt, but soon you turn left onto the path that runs into the Monferrato countryside dotted with industrious farms. You will find the asphalt again only when you reach Strada Caminata and from there, uphill, you will get to the village centre.
