Via dell’Acqua – Leg 3
The third and last stage of Via dell'Acqua starts from the municipality of Villanova d'Asti to reach San Paolo Solbrito. We leave the concentric, then, heading north, along the old road to Chieri, cross the highway and look out onto a large agricultural area that we will travel until we arrive at the settlement that arose near the railway station, a very important junction of communication of the territory.
From here, we continue northwards, arriving in the hamlet of Savi. The local church, dedicated to S. Marco Evangelista dei Savi, is the work of Juvarra’s students. From here, we enter along dirt roads that cross large wooded areas and continue along the Rio Traversola that leads directly to San Paolo Solbrito. This concentric has ancient Roman origins and followed the same vicissitudes that have accompanied many of the towns of the Asti area. Located along the Via Fulvia, it has passed ownership through several families, until it definitively became part of the possessions of the Savoy family. Of particular importance, in the local belief, is the Sanctuary of Madonna di Serra.
