The Ciclolanga Ride
This long trail in a figure 8 runs through a large part of the Langa Astigiana and reaches eight municipalities. The tour allows you to immerse yourself in enchanting landscapes and vineyards alternating with woods, perched villages, watchtowers and a lot of history.
The trail starts from Castel Boglione, in the valley of the homonymous stream, and then climbs up to Castel Rocchero where, amidst a sea of vineyards, reaches “Il Cascinone”, a splendid panoramic point where your eyes are bound to be filled with wonder.
Next, you get back on your bike and continue towards Montabone, a small village with the typical characteristics of the Langa Astigiana and then you will ride on asphalt towards Rocchetta Palafea, a village dominated by the medieval tower. Now we are in the belly of the imagined figure eight of our itinerary and the track takes us first to Cassinasco and then to the Caffi sanctuary as we proceed towards the Bosco della Luja in the municipality of Loazzolo. Once past the true nature of these hills, you reach Cessole with its splendid Baroque parish church and then the evocative ruins of the castle of Vesime.
Once you have crossed the provincial road and the Bormida river, you go up along a panoramic road to reach San Giorgio Scarampi, a pretty village perched on the hillside. If you continue along the Tatorba stream you will soon reach the Romanesque bridge at Monastero Bormida. A stop in the village is a must in order to go for a walk on the bridge and take a look at the impressive castle.
Next, right from there, you proceed towards the parish church of San Desiderio, another charming place worth visiting. You cross the river again and then climb up towards Sessame to end our ideal figure eight trail in Rocchetta Palafea. The return to Castel Boglione is along a route that is mostly panoramic as it overlooks vineyards and hamlets.
