The Battle Path on a MTB

The Path retraces the main stages of the battle of Ceresole d'Alba, which took place on 14 April 1544 and involved around 30,000 soldiers. The protagonists of the battle were the French army of Francis I and the Imperial army of Charles V, who were fighting for hegemony on Italian territory. The clash ended with the victory of Francis I's French army.

The trail intends to narrate the battle and highlight the close bond between the Ceresole d'Alba area and its extraordinary and turbulent history.

The trail winds its way through the Ceresola countryside, along roads with low traffic flow or through cornfields and hazelnut groves. Most of the municipality's area is characterized by the presence of wetlands that have resulted in the formation of artificial lakes, commonly known as fishponds. The fishponds' development is undoubtedly favoured by the clay soils (red soils) which are characterised by shallow impermeable horizons and a continental climate that is anything but rainy and boasts the lowest average annual rainfall in the entire province of Cuneo.

The Path begins in the old town of Ceresole d'Alba, where you can also visit the MuBatt – Museo della Battaglia (Battle museum): in the halls of the exhibition space, you can embark on a journey to explore the battle, while discovering the testimonies and historical relics that have been preciously preserved over the centuries.
