Flea market or Liars market: the great antiques tradition of Langhe Monferrato Roero.
Some people still call them flea markets, others, as in Asti, stage them in the sumptuous Piazza Cattedrale and call them "dei bugiardi" (liars), others simply present themselves as antiques markets and they are unmissable events on these hills that follow a precise schedule. On Sundays you'll find at least one square bustling with stalls selling furniture, home furnishings, paintings, ornaments, lamps, chairs, cutlery, clothes, wristwatches, table clocks, work tools, old postcards, books and knick-knacks galore. Wandering through the maze of these often very colourful and "ruffled" markets is a bit like taking a trip back in history, and you might just happen to bump into something precious or that perfect "piece" to complete your home decor.

Let your intuition guide you: your lucky bargain is right there!
True journeys down memory lane, these markets will add a touch of originality to your stay: the objects you see and perhaps haggle over have a story to tell or even to imagine. Check the calendar: some of them have fixed dates, such as the unmissable events of the Grandi Mercati di Cherasco, one of the largest in the area, which involves the remarkable old town of Cherasco. Others take place on a monthly basis (in Asti every fourth Sunday of the month, in Moncalvo on the first and in Nizza Monferrato on the third), while others are planned on an annual basis.
